In April 2026, Sri Lanka's new SLS certification rule changed the bottle shelf overnight: uncertified plastic drinking and feeding bottles could no longer be sold, certified plastic cost noticeably more, and government offices banned single-use plastic water bottles from 31 May 2026. Families, schools and offices all moved in the same direction at once — towards glass and steel.

What didn't exist was plain information: what the rule actually says, what a fair price looks like, and how to tell a good bottle from a bad one. Most of what search engines returned was either shop pages or auto-generated articles that got the meaning of wasa bothal itself wrong. So we built the guide we wanted to read — in plain English, with Sinhala where it matters most.

Prices. We check what bottles actually cost on Daraz.lk, Kapruka and local seller pages, and publish ranges — never single “deals”. Every price range carries the month we observed it, and we re-check around each school term (January, April, September). Prices are set by sellers and change; our ranges are a fairness check, not a quote.

Rules. Our SLS explainers are built from public, sourced documents: the October 2025 gazette reporting, Consumer Affairs Authority announcements, and reporting by Sri Lankan news outlets. Where we cite research — like the microplastics study — we link the original paper and tell you what it did and didn't conclude.

Products. We don't test bottles in a lab. We tell you what the listing can't: the tap test, the checks that matter, and the review keywords that reveal problems before you order.

Today: it isn't. There are no affiliate commissions on this site and no advertising. The work is a public-interest side project.

In future we may add display advertising (through Google AdSense) and, if a shop ever offers a fair affiliate arrangement, marked affiliate links. Both would be disclosed on every page and in our privacy policy before they appear. Whatever we add, two things won't change: sellers can't buy placement, and commissions can't reorder our picks.

We're a small independent editorial project: shoppers and parents who got tired of guessing at the bottle shelf and started taking notes. We are not affiliated with Daraz, Kapruka, the Sri Lanka Standards Institution, the Consumer Affairs Authority, or any seller or manufacturer. We don't sell bottles.

One honest caveat: the Sinhala text on this site is drafted with care but still awaiting a professional native review — if you spot an awkward phrase, tell us and we'll fix it.
