Why this site exists
Sri Lanka introduced new requirements for specified reusable plastic drinking bottles and polymer feeding bottles from 1 April 2026. A separate public-sector measure stopped the purchase and use of single-use plastic water bottles in state institutions from 31 May 2026. At the same time, Sri Lankan marketplace listings use the romanized phrase wasa bothal around reusable water bottles.
Those facts create several legitimate search intents: people may be trying to understand the phrase, the rules, what products are affected, what alternatives exist or what bottles cost. We do not assume every search is a shopping search, and we do not claim the policy is the sole cause of search interest.
How we research
Rules
We prefer official gazettes, Sri Lanka Standards Institution material and government notices. News reporting is used for implementation context, not as a substitute for the legal text.
Marketplace usage
We distinguish how a term is used by shops from dictionary meaning. A product title proves marketplace usage; it does not prove a unique linguistic definition.
Prices
Prices are dated observations, not promises or forecasts. Sellers set live prices, stock and delivery terms.
Health & safety
We avoid turning limited evidence into a health ranking. When research is uncertain, the uncertainty belongs in the copy.
Our claim standard
Every important statement should fit one box
- Official fact: supported by a primary or authoritative source.
- Marketplace observation: supported by visible listings or seller material.
- Search observation: based on query/SERP/trend data.
- Interpretation: our explanation, explicitly labelled as interpretation.
Policy-heavy claims link back to the official sources hub, so readers can verify the underlying documents directly.
How the project makes money
Retail shop links are currently ordinary editorial links and do not pay us a commission. The site also offers a bulk sourcing service. If a business inquiry becomes an order, a service fee may be earned for sourcing and coordination work.
Advertising or affiliate monetization may be introduced in the future. If that happens, disclosures and privacy/cookie information will be updated before the change goes live. Commercial relationships do not buy editorial claims or rankings.
Who runs it
Wasa Bothal is a small independent project run by Gerrad Zhang. It is not affiliated with the Sri Lanka Standards Institution, Consumer Affairs Authority, Daraz, Kapruka, or any government body. We are not a manufacturer and do not hold bottle inventory.
